Itinerary

Day 01 : Airport / Negombo

Program

  • Arrive at the Bandaranaike International Airport where you will be welcomed by a representative of Lotus DMC Lanka or a tour guide.
  • Check in to the hotel, relax a bit before moving on to the first activity of your tour
  • In the evening you will be able to engage in a Boat ride to Muthurajawela Bird sanctuary to observe endemic and migratory birds of Sri Lanka.

Drive (Approximately) - 85 km / 1 h 10 min.

Dress Code - No Dress code, carry a hat or a cap, sunglasses, and sunscreen is recommended. Trekking shoes, insect repellent, and comfortable clothing will be an advantage

Overnight stay - Colombo

Day 02: Negombo / Anawilundawa / Anuradhapura

Program

  • After Breakfast proceed to Anuradhapura Via Anawilundawa
  • Anawilundawa is generally an unknown destination though it is technically a National Park protected by the Wildlife Department
  • The sanctuary is also used as a nesting site for many exotic species
  • Proceed to Anuradhapura and check in at the hotel, relax and catch a breath before engage in an Anuradhapura Ancient city tour

Overnight stay - Anuradhapura

Day 03: Anuradhapura / Mihinthale / Hiriwaduna / Habarana

Program

  • After Breakfast proceed To Mihinthale rock
  • On the peak of the rock assuring breath-taking viewpoints of the Kingdom of Lakes and Anuradhapura.
  • After the Climb you can proceed to Hiriwaduna village Trek where you can enjoy a traditional village Lunch and also experience a bullock cart ride, a catamaran ride.
  • At the end of the experience you’ll be transferred to your Hotel, to relax and unwind for the day

Overnight stay - Habarana

Day 04: Habarana / Sigiriya / Habarana

Program

  • After an early breakfast proceed to Sigiriya Sanctuary
  • Surrounding of Sigiriya Rock Fortress is a designated forest reserve and is a very good birding destination.
  • You will also get the opportunity to climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress, where you’ll be able to see ancient ruins, ponds, architecture and arts and a breathtaking landscape view from the top of the rock.
  • Depending on the time available you will also have an option to do a Safari at Minneriya National Park

Day 05:   Habarana / Matale / Kandy

Program

  • After Breakfast proceed To Kandy via Matale
  • On the way to Matale stop by the Spice Garden to check out Sri Lankan quality spices from a national spice garden.
  • After reaching Kandy you will get a chance to engage in an amazing cultural city tour including Temple of the Tooth Relic

Drive (Approximately) – 97 km / 3 h 15 min

Dress Code – wear white when possible if not wear something with shoulders and legs covered, no hats and shoes allowed when visiting Temples.

Overnight stay - Kandy

Day 06: Kandy / Peradeniya / Kandy

Program

  • Early morning, proceed to Udawattakele Forest Reserve Trek.
  • Stroll around along the beaten track and you won't even know until you're wrapped in the chirps of birds.
  • After the trek you will be transferred to Peradeniya Botanical Gardens to get even closer to nature and observe different species of flora and fauna

Overnight stay - Kandy

Day 07 :  Kandy / Kithulgala

Program

  • After an early breakfast, proceed to Kithulgala for more adventure and birders experience
  • Grab your gear and toss into the wild rapids for a seamless rafting challenge on white water, thundering downstream throwing rafters far & wide

Drive (Approximately) – 65 km / 2 h 30 min

Dress Code – No Dress code, carry a hat or a cap, sunglasses, and sunscreen is recommended   

Overnight stay - Kithulgala

Day 08:  Kitulgala

Program

  • After breakfast, you are free to trek through the forests of Kitulgala
  • There are over 50 rare species of birds can be seen. This is perfect for nature lovers, who will be able to spot rainforest bird species such as the Sri Lanka Spurfowl, Spot-winged Thrush, and Green-billed Coucal

Overnight stay - Kithulgala

Day 09: Kithulgala / Nuwaraeliya

Program

  • After breakfast, proceed to Nuwara Eliya through a scenic route.
  • En-route you will be able to visit a Tea plantation and factory to experience the Ceylon tea production from buds to box, first hand.
  • Continue to Nuwara Eliya and check in by the Hotel
  • In the evening you can take a Bird watching walk in Victoria Park Nuwara Eliya to see birds such as Parrots, Pigeons, sunbirds, flowerpeckers, flycatchers, Chats, Thrashers, Wobblers, and Wagtails

Drive (Approximately) – 75km / 2 h 45 min

Overnight stay - Nuwara Eliya 

 Day 10: Nuwaraeliya / Hortan plains / Tissamaharama

Program

  • Take breakfast packets from the hotel and proceed to Hortan Plains for an early morning trek
  • Horton plains track to observe endemic and migratory species of birds (out of 87 species 14 are endemic).
  • End of the experience proceed to the Hotel in Tissamaharamaya, unwind and relax.

Day 11 : Thissamaharama / Bundala / Sinharaja

 Program

  • Early morning proceed to a safari  at Bundala National Park
  • Bundala National Park is a fantastic wetland sanctuary that shelters thousands of colorful birds ranging from little bee-eaters to grotesque open-billed stalks
  • After the safari come back to the hotel relax and regain energy for the evening
  • In the evening proceed to Sinharaja Rainforest for a trek through
  • Birding in Sinharaja is particularly interesting because it is home to 95% of the endemic birds of Sri Lanka!
  • At the end of the experience, you’ll be transferred to your Hotel, to relax and unwind for the day

Day 12 : Sinharaja

Program

  • After breakfast proceed to Sinharaja forest reserve for a full day birding trail
  • You are up for a refreshing treat covering fauna varieties extending from spotted deer, hog deer, golden palm cive, Stripe-necked mongoose as well as butterflies & reptiles sheltered by the striking evergreen vegetation

Overnight stay - Sinharaja

Day 13 Sinharaja / Galle

Program        

  • After breakfast proceed to Galle
  • Galle, the epic Southern capital, is the intersection where classic Dutch architecture meets a tropical setting creating a vivid atmosphere in beauty.
  • By the Galle fort, you can observe beach boys performing stunts around sometimes if you are lucky

Day 14  : Galle /Airport

Program 

Leave the hotel at the standard check-out time and proceed to Colombo International Airport for the departure
